Fall 2024

Hi THESA community

Here we are - knee deep in the 2024-25 school year already! I hope the summer left you feeling rejuvenated and that you’re feeling inspired for this new school year. I’m excited to welcome  you to another enriching year with the Teachers of Home Economics Specialist Association. Our shared commitment to fostering practical life skills and enhancing the well-being of individuals and families remains as strong as ever. This year, THESA has a wonderful array of events, resources, and opportunities designed to support your professional growth and inspire your teaching practices.

Our upcoming annual conference in October is a highlight of this season. The 2024 THESA Conference “Reciprocity in Action” will be held on October 25th at Steveston London Secondary School in Richmond, BC. This event will bring together educators from across the province to share insights, explore new ideas, and celebrate our collective achievements. With a diverse lineup of speakers, hands-on workshops, and networking sessions, the conference promises to be a valuable and memorable experience for all attendees - online or in person. Register at www.thesaconference.ca. There are social events on both Thursday and Friday and we couldn’t be more grateful to the Richmond teacher volunteers who are hosting this conference. (Please reach out to thesa@thesa.org if you have any questions about hosting the 2025 conference - we’d love for our conference to be in your community next year!)

We will be celebrating teachers who inspire us at the THESA 2024 AGM. Are there colleagues that you work with who inspire you? Has someone in your district recently retired and they deserve some recognition for the wonderful work they did over their career? Nominate them for a Pin of Recognition here. Additionally, we will also be awarding the first annual “Home Economics Teacher of the Year” at our conference this October. You can read more about that award here

I encourage you to take full advantage of the resources and connections available through our association. Whether you are seeking innovative teaching strategies, the latest research in home economics, grants to bolster professional development with colleagues, or simply a supportive community of like-minded professionals, we are here to support you every step of the way. Visit www.thesa.org to explore what THESA has to offer.

As we embark on this new season, let us also take a moment to acknowledge the incredible work you do every day. Your dedication to educating and empowering students is truly inspiring, and it is an honour to be a part of such a passionate and committed group of educators. Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm. I look forward to seeing you at the conference!
