I hope you’re all having a great 2024 so far!
The 2023 THESA conference at Semiahmoo Secondary School was a huge success! Thank you so much to the hosts! Their efforts combined to create fantastic learning and connecting opportunities both in person and online! And thank you to you if you were able to join in on October 20th. For hybrid users, we did experience some challenges on our online platform on the day of with no fault to the hosts and we want to share that we are searching for a reliable platform to use for hybrid options going forward. We also received some funds back from the company we were working with and plan to “give that back” in some way to online participants at the 2024 conference. Speaking of the 2024 conference - some teachers from Richmond have put their names forward to host! Thank you! We are excited to learn alongside you in Richmond this October and we will provide details as they become available. Please reach out of if you or some colleagues are interested in hosting a conference in the future! We are looking for hosts for the 2025 conference!

GRANTS for group pro-d! → THESA offers grants of up to $500 for groups of home economics educators for professional learning opportunities! This can be for a small group of friends or colleagues who are THESA members or it could be for a local!
GRANTS for you and resources you want! → Have you seen a resource your interested in? Maybe you want to read Wayi Wah! Indigenous Pedagogies: An Act for Reconciliation and Anti-Racist Education by Jo Chrona to consider the questions How can Indigenous knowledge systems inform our teaching practices and enhance education? How do we create an education system that embodies an anti-racist approach and equity for all learners? Maybe you want to buy a cookbook to help you celebrate BC’s agriculture, food, food and chefs in your classroom by bringing in local recipes by local authors? Maybe you want to learn more about topics you teach about like contemporary child rearing strategies, natural fabric dying, or raised bed gardening? Maybe you want work on teaching with a trauma informed practice by learning about trauma from Gabor Mate? Or work on classroom management? Whatever it is that you’re looking to explore, we hope you’ll take advantage of the THESA grant to help support you in this professional development!
SCHOLARSHIPS! THESA offers four $750 scholarships annually to THESA members. Applications can be found here and are due by April 15. If you are a student, please apply!

RESOURCES! Have you checked out THESA’s youtube channel or pinterest page? You can find all those links at the top of thesa.org. And of course Melanie is continuing to thoughtful update THESA’s google drive - also found on our website under “Resources”.
