Summer 2021
Congratulations on getting to summer 2021! The 2020/2021 school year is one none of us will forget. I hope you are able to find some very well deserved time for yourself to rest, recharge, and reflect this summer!
This summer I will continue to represent you and our colleagues as I meet with the BCTF and the Ministry of Education’s Health and Safety Working group mid-August to discuss details about our return to school in September.
I also plan to rest, recharge and reflect. I will be setting aside time to question what to leave behind and what to continue as life starts shifting back to something similar to my pre-pandemic life. Additionally, I will be reflecting on my role as an educator and citizen, particularly as a white settler in Canada. I plan to read Indigenous Writes: A Guide to First Nations, Métis & Inuit Issues in Canada by Chelsea Vowel.
Looking toward fall, the THESA executive is happy to share that registration is open for the virtual THESA 2021 conference “Growing Together”. You can visit thesaconference.ca to register now and get yourself entered into our early bird draw for a free registration. We are excited about our keynote Chef Jenny Dorsey, a wonderful group of presenters, and to gather with you once again to grow and learn together. We are holding a Thursday night “social” on Zoom hosted by THESA Executive’s very own Martina Seo where you can play a couple rounds of BINGO, maybe win some prizes, and spend some social time with your fellow THESA members. Make sure to sign up for that when you register for the conference if you are interested. I also want to recognize and extend a huge thank you to the THESA executive members who managed to organize a virtual conference for the second year in a row during this challenging school year
There is a very good chance that our 2022 conference will be in person and we are actively searching for a group of home economics teachers to take their turn to host. Please contact me at psac47@bctf.ca if you think you might be interested in hosting THESA’s 2022 conference.
I hope you have a wonderful summer!
