Fall 2021

Fall is here and I hope, as you settle into this new, cozy season, that you are feeling rested from your summer and are starting to find a stride in your classrooms despite the challenging circumstances we find ourselves in.

I am looking forward to our virtual THESA conference this year on October 22, 2021. The conference theme is “Growing Together” and we are looking forward to bringing you another online day of learning together, while apart. The conference will open with our keynote Chef Jenny Dorsey who will discuss why food is inherently political, and how it shapes our worldview and our relationships with other people. The day will continue with a variety of sessions covering myriad aspects of the curriculum and pedagogy of our diverse subject area of home economics. We are also excited to be hosting a virtual BINGO social hosted by THESA Executive’s very own Martina Seo on the Thursday night before the conference. You can join us there for some fun and prizes. Please visit thesaconference.ca to register.

This year’s conference is being hosted by the THESA executive for the second year in a row and I want to extend my gratitude and thanks to all of the executive members for their hard work that is making this conference a reality. As we look forward to our conference this October, we also have the October 2022 conference in the back of our minds. We are planning (fingers crossed) for the conference to be in person but do not yet have a host. Please contact me at psac47@bctf.ca  if you are wondering about what hosting might look like or if you would like to host the conference in October 2022. Thank you!

THESA is here to support its members and I hope you are finding this community helpful and useful. If you are looking for some inspiration or ideas, THESA has curated a plethora of resources and ideas - you can find them on our website thesa.org and on our google drive

THESA also has an active Facebook group - thank you to those of you who are sharing and chatting there. There were many posts and comments over the summer that helped me plan and get my head in the game for this school year.

I’m wishing you all the best in your new school year.
