1: INQUIRE & INVESTIGATE

UNDERSTANDING CLOTHING CARE

Why is clothing care important? What resources do people have to help them care for their textile items?

Gather some clothes and look at the tags of some clothing of members of your household—are there washing/care instructions? Might there be occasions where laundry/care symbols aren’t on an item of clothing?

What is the purpose of using symbols for laundry instead of words? Which might you prefer—symbols or words?

In the first section of this module, you will be investigating symbols that are used around the world to identify methods for clothing and textile care.
